Decoding My DNA Soon, $820 Raised So Far (Update: $1000 raised!)

by Andrew Meyer on January 11, 2008

23andMeMost of you are well aware by now that I will be using 23andMe’s Personal Genome Service in the very near future.

All I need to do is raise a total of $1000 and I’m going to send for 23andMe’s saliva collection kit. You can see my first post explaining why I want to do this and see this post tracking my fundraising efforts to date.

You can follow all my genome posts over in the left sidebar under the “My Genome” category.

As of today, I have raised $820 $870 Update: $1000 raised! Just ordered the 23andMe kit. See this post for more.
Surprisingly, a good portion of that has come from complete strangers. Curious friends and family have also donated a healthy amount.

I have to thank the blogosphere for giving me plenty of shout outs. Interesting genetics and genealogy blogs like Eye on DNA and The Genetic Genealogist and awesome tech blogs like TechCrunch have all given boosting hollers.

Hopefully, providing interesting and riveting posts on my 23andMe experience will add something solid and fun to the blogosphere.

I put out a call to other saliva-spitting bloggers about three weeks ago. Bloggers like Mark Fletcher, Lara at LaunchSquad and Kevin Kelly. We are all trying these new personal genome services and its interesting to get multiple viewpoints.

You are definitely welcome to use the widget below to send a donation. It would be gladly accepted. Fundraising complete. Thanks everyone.
