“Web Presence” is the New Resume

union square ventures logoUnion Square Ventures an early stage venture capital fund located in NYC is looking to hire a new analyst.

How are they hiring for this analyst position?

Here's how:

"If you are interested in this position, please comment on this post with your name, email address, and a link to your web presence. Web presence could by anything accessible via a URL: it could be a blog, a social networking profile, a portfolio, a company, a social bookmarking archive... it is whatever you think best represents who you are online. Once we build up a good set of comments, we will start contacting people to determine next steps."

Wow. This just goes to show how important having a solid online presence is nowadays.

If you remember, this was reason #3 on my post titled "Three Strong Reasons Everyone Should Have a Blog" from about two weeks ago. In that post, I said, "...you never know when you’ll be able to use your blog to connect, communicate, collaborate or, for that matter, GET A JOB."

I caught this amazing analyst position via my daily reading of VC Fred Wilson's excellent blog, which always provides a surprisingly open and candid voice to the exclusive, tight-lipped world of venture capital.

Note: Fred Wilson and Union Square Ventures are definitely ahead of the curve on the whole new resume thing, but soon other smart companies will do the same.

It should also be noted that they've done this before back in July 2006 and had successful results (Andrew the analyst hired from that 'web presence' resume experiment is staying on with the firm in a larger role).

If you are interested in this position, go leave a comment on Union Square Ventures' blog.
