Still Waiting For My DNA Results

DNA strands

Whenever I run into friends and family someone usually asks me about my "DNA thing". They always want to know if I "know anything yet?".

Five weeks have elapsed since I mailed my saliva tube on Feb. 7 (You can see my DNA party photos here and my spit challenge video here). 23andMe says that it usually takes between 4-6 weeks for them to process, read and upload the results to their website.

That means I should be getting my results back in the next week or so. Yay!

In the meantime, other bloggers have been providing interesting looks at their own DNA results. Here are some good ones:

1) NBC News Correspondent Peter Alexander explores his results on the Today Show (via The Genetic Genealogist).

2) My ex-boss provides an extensive look at his results and is sharing the data results with people.

3) Hsien over at Eye on DNA has a list of three people who are discussing and sharing their results (one using 23andMe and two using deCODEme).

4) Kevin Kelly is still comparing his 23andMe and deCODEme results, but he provides a great overview of the SNPedia wiki.

5) This last one is really bizarre and doesn't have anything to do with DNA results (well, kind of) but I had to give it a shout-out.

Sperm For Tickets is trading concert tickets for sperm donations (via Eye on DNA).

Note: I'm put my skepticism aside and believed.

Andrew,

We've also been collecting links on the SNPedia testing experiences page to people who've chosen to discuss their genomes based on 23etAl-style results, in addition to posting full datasets for some of the same folks. It's been a pretty mixed bag so far!

Greg, thats awesome. I'll be able to download my dataset as soon as I get my results. Look forward to referencing my results to the SNPedia wiki.

Andrew - Looking forward to hearing more about your experience with genetic testing. By the way, the blog redesign looks great!

Thanks, Blaine!

sweet! I cant' wait for your results!

My spit was "received at the lab" on Jan 22, and I have yet to see my data. I wouldn't hold your breath.

Chris, we should become world-famous journalists. I'm sure that would speed things up. :)
