Demo For The Press

by Andrew Meyer on November 29, 2008

I created a page (Update: Page no longer exists) aggregating PressDemocrat.com’s available local news feeds. It’s clean, light, and navigable. Take a look and let me know what you think:

Demo for the Press homepage

My goal is to facilitate a conversation around making the page better. I want everyone’s feedback on how to make the page better. I’m open to try anything. The page is limited only by the availability of PressDemocrat.com’s feeds.

Am I stealing PressDemocrat.com’s content or conversations? No, I’m using feeds they’ve made publicly available. And, I’m using them to redirect people back to PressDemocrat.com’s content and conversations.

Your ideas, comments, and emails are valuable to making the page better. Email us at andrew@buzzyeah.com.

  • Hey Andrew, I have been missing your posts from quite a long time, there's been no updates from you! start posting again.
  • The "feel" has made the word "alltop" just pop into my mind. Perhaps a segment can be allotted to comments feed.
  • Sam
possibly the coolest thing I've seen all month. simple. news. buffet. Eat up. Werd!
  • I like it.

I've been thinking about how to do something similar, though with a Django backend. Part of what I'd do is break up the feeds a bit, perhaps using Yahoo Pipes, to sort content by location. This would probably be tricky and not terribly accurate, but it would be a start towards better organization. Of course, it would all be easier if the PD sorted news geographically to start with...
  • Chris, I really wish PD sorted content by city/location, too. For instance,
it would be awesome to have a feed for Windsor-only news. Let me know if you
create some tricky feeds like that.

On another note, I hear that a feed for local business news is on the way.
